![]() The 17 digit VIN's are easy to decode because a specific letter or, after 2000 a number, denotes the year of manufacture: T=1996, V=1997, W=1998, X=1999, Y=2000, 1=2001, 2=2002, 3=2003.īut I can find no way to decode an 11 digit VIN folks! The bike I have has the new rounded tail light panel work as opposed to the old squared off tail (sorry, I don't have enough posts to add pics yet) so she's either late '93 (that's when they changed the tail design yes?), a '94 or a '95. Now, from what I understand, the 17 digit VIN came in in 1996, so anything with an 11 digit is obviously older than that. The bike had changed hands a few times and he has no knowledge of it's history. ![]() ![]() The bike had been re-sprayed (in 2000 livery) and the owner didn't know about 11 digit versus 17 digit VIN's. I've just put a deposit on an Africa Twin which was originally advertised as a '99.
